The Adopt an Artifact program is an on-going project supported by the Friends of Independence to help conserve our priceless artifacts. As artifacts are adopted, new ones will be added to our list. Keep checking back to see what artifacts need your help.
If you are interested in supporting this project, there are a few ways you can help
- Adopt the artifact – if an artifact catches your eye or has a special connection, please contact us to let us know you are interested. We will have a conservator write up a proposal and discuss with you the work that needs to be done to protect the artifact for future generations. You can choose to fun the entire project or part of the project, it is up to you.
- Create a campaign for an artifact – if there is an artifact that you want to support and think you know others who will support it as well, please call us to discuss the artifact. We will work with you to create a campaign for the artifact and help you to raise funds and awareness.
- Give to the program and not a specific project – If you would like to give to the Adopt an Artifact program to help with the future preservation and maintenance of our artifacts, that is great! The park has a lot of artifacts that need our help and it is our goal to not only conserve the artifacts on our list but to also conserve artifacts that may need more immediate help. We are setting up a fund to do just that so we can protect our history.
